The AMOCO Scholarship
At AMOCO, we’re committed to higher education, that’s why we offer our AMOCO students the opportunity to apply for one of the best scholarship programs around! AMOCO offers five scholarship awards to members who are graduating high school seniors and undergraduate college students, including vocational and technical students. The awards range from $1,000 up to $2,000 and includes an opportunity for paid summer internship!* Recipients will be offered a paid summer internship at AMOCO after completion of the 2021 -2022 academic school year.*

- Applicants must be a member of AMOCO FCU (17 – 22 years of age).
- Applicants must be either a graduating high school senior or a current undergraduate who is or will be enrolled at a two-year community college, vocational/trade school, or university for the 2021-2022 academic school year.
- Applicants must submit a completed scholarship application and upload all required documentation through the online scholarship application page by Monday, March 22, 2021, at 5:00 PM CST.
Honorarium Scholarships
- Applicants must read the Honorarium Bios and submit a letter(s) of recommendation and a resume highlighting their leadership, volunteerism, and/or community involvement.
- Applicants must be a member of AMOCO FCU (17 – 22 years of age).
- Applicants must be either a graduating high school senior or a current undergraduate who is or will be enrolled at a two-year community college, vocational/trade school, or university for the 2021-2022 academic school year.
- Applicants must submit a letter(s) of recommendation and a resume highlighting their leadership, volunteerism, and/or community involvement.
- Applicants must submit a completed scholarship application and upload all required documentation through the online scholarship application page by Monday, March 22, 2021, at 5:00 PM CST.
The Application Process
Applicants will be required to complete an online application and submit supporting documents. Before starting the application, applicants should carefully review and complete the following application requirements. Documents listed below will need to be uploaded at the time of application. Your application will not be reviewed until all of these documents are submitted.
- Transcript or Report Card: Applicants must submit a transcript or report card showing their unweighted grade point average (GPA). Acceptable documentation includes copies of transcripts or report cards
- College Enrollment Documentation: Applicants must submit college enrollment documentation of either: a college acceptance letter, a signed candidate plan, and/or registration papers.
- Credit Union Statement: Applicants must submit a statement of why credit unions are important. Your statement should also explain why and how you would be an advocate for credit unions now and in the future.
- Typed Essay: Applicants must submit a typed essay of no more than 500 words. The essay should help us learn more about you and should tell us why you should be selected as a scholarship recipient. Be sure to include your educational and career goals, along with any additional information you feel we should know.
Optional Forms
Applicants may also submit a letter(s) of recommendation and a resume highlighting any of the following: academic and extra-curricular awards and/or achievements, participation in groups or clubs, community service, and/or volunteer work. The information provided on supporting documents will help judges identify applicants that best reflect the spirit of leadership and volunteerism.
Honors, Awards, Extra-Curricular, and Service Resume
Applicants are encouraged to read the Honorarium Bios and submit a resume that highlights their accomplishments and service to others. This could include any academic or extra-curricular awards, honors, or certifications. Applicants should also use this opportunity to list any unpaid community or volunteer service hours completed. Part-time employment held may also be included.
Letter(s) of Recommendation
Applicants are encouraged to submit letters of recommendation signed by a teacher, professor, or school official. All letters must be on official school letterhead and include the writer’s name, job title, email address, and phone number.
Internships
All five (5) scholarship recipients will be eligible for a paid summer internship at AMOCO during the 2022 summer break.* To be eligible for the internship program, recipients must meet the following internship employment criteria by June 1, 2022:
- Complete two full semesters or have a minimum of 30 hours of college credit with a GPA of 2.50.
- Must be pursuing a degree in one of the following areas of study: accounting, computer science/information systems, communications, economics, finance, general business, graphic design, human resources, leadership, legal studies, management, management information systems, marketing, or public relations. Documentation showing the degree plan will be required.
- If a recipient is not pursuing a degree listed above, a job interview will be required to determine if an internship will be granted.

- High school students in their final year of studies who are scheduled to graduate in May 2021.
- Students currently enrolled at a U.S. vocational or technical school.
- Undergraduate students currently enrolled at an accredited U.S. college or university.
Five recipients will each receive the AMOCO scholarship. If a student is chosen as a winner of the AMOCO Scholarship, they will also be eligible for the Honorarium Scholarship.
The scholarship award amount is $1,000 but if a recipient receives both the AMOCO Scholarship and the Honorarium Scholarship, they will receive a total of $2,000.
AMOCO reserves the right to award the Honorarium Scholarships to applicants who were not selected as initial winners of the AMOCO Scholarship.

Summer internships are optional. If you are unable to fulfill the responsibilities of a full-time summer internship or do not pass the interview process, you will not receive the summer internship.

Yes. If you are a recipient of the AMOCO Scholarship, you could potentially be awarded the Honorarium Scholarship as well.
Applicants will be asked to provide the following:
- Contact information
- Transcript or current report card
- College enrollment documentation of either: a college acceptance letter, signed candidate plan of study, and/or registration papers
- Statement of why credit unions are important
- Personal Essay
Optional Supporting Documents:
- Resume highlighting honors, awards, extra-curricular activities, letter(s) of recommendations, and service hours completed.
- All applications are reviewed by the Scholarship Coordinator to ensure each applicant’s eligibility and that all required documents were submitted.
- The Scholarship Coordinator assigns a unique number to each application and removes the applicant’s identity to ensure fairness and objectivity.
- Applications that meet the eligibility requirements are submitted to the Scholarship Committee. Committee members will individually evaluate and score each application. Scores for each applicant are combined using a weighted scoring method.
- After the top ten (10) scoring applications are determined, they are submitted to the Executive Management Team and/or Board of Directors for the final top five (5) selection.
- The Executive Management Team and/or Board of Directors will review any supporting documents submitted by the applicants to identify three (3) recipients that best exemplify the spirit of leadership and volunteerism. The recipients selected will be awarded a $1,000 Honorarium Scholarship. If more than three (3) out of the top five (5) winners do not meet the requirements for the Honorarium Scholarships, the Executive Management Team and/or Board of Directors reserve the right to pick Honorarium Scholarship winners from applicants that were not selected as AMOCO Scholarship winners.
